CUBAN Ambassador to Guyana, Mr. Francisco Marchante, yesterday, paid an inspection visit to the newly constructed Suddie Diagnostic Centre on Essequibo Coast.
He was accompanied by Vice-Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Vishnu Samaroo, Regional Health Officer, Dr. Allison Brown and Cuban doctors.
The diplomat held discussions with Samaroo and consultant at the centre, Mr. Noel James, during which he was informed that the state-of-the-art clinic will be ready for commissioning by month-end.
James assured the Cuban envoy that electricity will be available at the facility by next week Wednesday and installed equipment would be tested over a three-day period.
James said the centre will also boast two huge back-up generators.
Ambassador Marchante observed that the Suddie Diagnostic Centre is the largest of the four spawned by the Cuba/Guyana agreement for modernising the local health sector and said he is looking forward to its opening.
Two of the other centres, located at Leonora, West Coast Demerara and Diamond, East Bank Demerara, were recently commissioned and are in operation.
The fourth is still being built at Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
