Oral Health Objectives and Strategies

  • Reduce or eliminate predisposing factors –  tobacco and alcohol use, Diabetes, unhealthy diet and lifestyle
  • Adopt health-promoting behaviours – use of fluoride toothpaste, brush at least twice daily, decrease sugar intake, prophylaxis, and visit dental clinic twice yearly.
  • Provide Curative Treatment of Caries – ART, Amalgam and Composite fillings, etc.
  • Increased dental visits to depressed communities for promotive and curative attention -Distribution of toothbrush and toothpaste samples.
  • Improve Oral Health education and awareness through school and community visits, and health fairs
  • Extend the reach of the Dental Services, providing Dental Surgeons for the remote regions where only Dentex/CDT work.
  • Establish more School-based Dental Clinics in Primary and Secondary schools in all Regions
  • Improve the School Oral Health Program to encompass all schools in all regions, and equip teams of Auxiliary personnel with mobile Dental Equipment for the delivery or curative treatment in schools
  • Implementation of mobile dental services for urban and rural areas, through the MOPH Mobile Dental Clinics (Dental Buses) being sourced presently. The Rotary Club of Central Georgetown has a Dental Bus that services schools in the city and Regions 3 and 4.
  • Advocate Salt Fluoridation as an Oral Health strategy to reduce the incidence and prevalence of Dental Caries in the population
