 Key responsibilities

·         Oversee and co-ordinate the functioning of all Regional Health Officers.

·         Support the regional health services in the provision of quality care for the residents.

·         Assist in the provision of specialist health care services to regions as deemed necessary.

·         Provide for the medical transfer of patients to the Georgetown Public Hospital when service is not available at their locations.

·         Ensure adequate staffing of regional hospitals and health centres.

·        Address infrastructure gaps

·        Strengthen the Primary Health Care services across all regions

·        Accredit all health facilities 

Objective

To ensure that adequate and appropriate health care is made available to all the people of Guyana regardless of their geographic location. 

Scope

The Regional and District Health Centres and Hospitals play a coordinating and support role in all 10 Regions of Guyana, including 22 District Hospitals, 70 Health Centres, 4 Regional Hospitals, 32 Health Posts and one Psychiatric Hospital.
